Is Your Tarot Deck AI?

A lot of "new" tarot decks on Etsy and TikTok are AI-generated art slapped onto card stock. There is nothing wrong with liking that art, but you should know what you are paying for. Here is how to tell the difference before you buy.

1. Look for an artist, not a brand

A real deck has a named artist with a body of work. Look for a portfolio, sketches, work-in-progress posts, and earlier pieces. AI shops tend to have a logo and no person behind it.

2. Check for consistency across the deck

AI art drifts. The same face on one card looks like a different person on the next, hands have the wrong number of fingers, and text in the art is gibberish. A hand-painted deck keeps a consistent style and anatomy because one artist drew every card.

3. Ask for process

Real artists show process: pencil sketches, paint layers, color studies. If the only images are finished cards and a marketing video, that is a flag.

4. Look at the backs and borders

AI decks often reuse a single generated image for every card back and rely on auto-generated borders. Hand-made decks usually have a designed back and intentional borders that match the theme.
